1. What makes The Good light Candles "Luxury Candles"?

"Luxury" is a broad term, it truly comes down to personal taste and the sensory experience a particular product creates for an individual. There are several  factors which make our candles truly "luxurious" and set them apart from regular scented candles :

• Our fragrances were crafted with  specially curated, ambrosial blend of different essential oils. These blends create a multi-dimensional symphony of scents, which are balanced perfectly for a blissful experience.  Our candles also have 10-12% of fragrance oil blends for a rich aroma which is double of the standard 5-6% used in regular scented candles.

In comparison, regular candles are usually made with a blend of 2-3 scents which can create an inconsistent, one dimensional throw.

• The "noses" behind our scents are globally recognised for their expertise and experience in curating scents for some of the biggest luxury brands in the world.
• Each and every element that you see in our candles has been handcrafted and put together by local artisans in India. Not a single element has been taken off the shelf. All the ingredients are organic & ethically sourced from within India.  Please refer to Candle Anatomy  for more details.

2. Why are The Good Light Candles Expensive?

The craftsmanship and the quality of the raw materials used is a huge factor in the cost of making a candle. Let, talk about them one by one :

• Most candles sold in big-box stores use paraffin wax. It is the cheapest wax in the market, but unfortunately, it is a chemically processed byproduct of gasoline. It is non-biodegradable, non-renewable and is not eco-friendly. The burn of paraffin wax candles is not clean and can create a significant amount of soot.

Our candles are made of 100% vegan, organic and natural soy wax which is derived from soy beans. This naturally sourced wax is renewable, bio-degradable,environment friendly, and much better in quality. Natural candles burn cleaner and produce bare minimum soot, and theyalso have an exceptional burn time. Our soy wax candles do burn longer than paraffin wax candles.Owing to their extraordinary qualities, natural waxes do cost more than paraffin.

• Next factor is the scents which are used in the candles. The fragrances used in our candles are blended with essential oils, which are directly derived from plants. We all know that a tiny bottle of an essential oil can cost a lot of money. But, at the same time, the quality of the scent these oils produce is richer and way more full-bodied in comparison to cheaper synthetic oils. They have a much better throw than regular candles as well.
• All our candles are 100% handmade and hand-poured. The work and labor involved in hand-pouring isn’t trivial, because you also have to factor in the packaging. In true spirit of celebrating handcrafted excellence, the production and the packaging of our candles has entirely been done by local artisans manually. Handcrafted boutique candles are more expensive to make from a labor standpoint in comparison to mass produced machine made candles.

3. What is the burn time of The Good Light Candles?

As a rule of thumb, candles burn at a rate of 7 to 9 hours per ounce of wax. Our soy wax candles can burn up to 60 hrs in optimum conditions. However, the burn time of a candle depends on various factors like length of continuous burn each time, candle maintenance, placement, surrounding temperature etc. Air Conditioners and windy areas may affect the burn time too. Kindly follow care instructions which we have put under our candle coasters to get optimum performance from our candles.

4. How long should I burn my candle for?

A fresh candle needs to burn for at least 1hr and you must not burn it for more than 3hrs.

Candles have a memory, it is called 'wax memory'. The very first time you light it, please allow the wax to fully melt and reach the edges of the container. If not burnt for at least an hour the first time, the candle can leave unmelted wax around the edges and cause tunneling. If the candle is burnt for more than 3hrs, it can negatively impact the wick by making it fall to one side. It will also make the container too hot. 

5. What can I do if the flame of my candle is really high?

 It is important to trim a wick 5mm before each use to ensure that the flame is not burning too high and it's not emitting a black residue (trimming is needed when the black part of the wick becomes too long). If the flame is too high, kindly blow the candle out, let it cool down a bit, trim the wick and re-light.

6. What can I do if the flame of my candle is really low/going out on it's own?

Candle burning can get affected if the candle has been lit for more hours than normal or if the wick has been trimmed too short. Sometimes due to variations in surrounding temperature, the wax around the sides melts faster and reduces the length of the wick. which in turn drowns the flame. It may also occur due to drafts and other factors which affect the burn time too (refer to point no. 3).

If your flame has gone out on it's own or if you've trimmed the wick too short, let the candle cool down to a semi solid state, and carefully scoop out a bit of wax around the wicks to expose them more, this should re-light your candle. You can do this step with a Q-tip too.

7. Is the throw of The Good Light Candles good enough to fill an entire room?

Although, the throw of our candles is amazing, it totally depends on how big the space is. If you're lighting our candle in your living room or a large area, then it's always better to light a candle in each corner to create a beautiful aromatic ambience. The same goes for larger bedrooms too.If you are using our candle in a smaller room like a study, or a prayer room, then one candle could be sufficient to fill up the room. Please avoid drafts in any case for optimum results.

8. I just received my candle, the wick is flat and the wax is uneven and chipped. Is this a defective product?

The wicks of all fresh candles candles come in a flat form to avoid distortion of the wick in the jar. Before you light the candle, kindly remove the dust cover, pull the wick straight and the candle will burn fine.Our candles are handmade and the wax that we have used is 100% natural and organic soy wax which has a very different consistency than other waxes. It is a very soft and creamy wax which does not set too hard in the jar. Minor chipping and cracks in the wax are not a defect and this is absolutely normal in any hand-poured organic soy wax candle.If you notice small chips of the wax on the jar or the lid, kindly put them back in the jar with a spatula. Owing to the soft and creamy consistency of the wax, your candle will burn absolutely clean once you light it.
